Much has been talked in the press not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to help keep the industry alive. But can the net adaptation of this classic game offer a escape, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo has been an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the smoking ban around Britain.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite locations where many people like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can play bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and fag and in the end, enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.
Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the communal part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
