An abundance has been reported in the press recently regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But does the net version of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it in no way compare to its land based kin?

Bingo is an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in acceptance with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlors rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the enforcement of the smoking ban throughout UK.

No longer will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored places where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlors. Profits have plummeted and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the communal part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
