Much has been stated in the press recently concerning the bingo industry being hit because of the cigarette ban in Britain. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But does the net version of this traditional game offer a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based relative?

Bingo has been an enduring game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game lately had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women opting to visit the bingo parlours rather than the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the introduction of the cigarette ban throughout Britain.

No longer will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not deserted this ancient game?

The answer is on the web. People realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and smoke and in the end, have a chance at massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on online is unlikely to replace the collective part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the law has left many bingo players with little alternative.
