A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hit because of the smoking ban in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the industry afloat. However does the web adaptation of this traditional game provide a salvation, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar peer?
Bingo has been an age old game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had undergone a recent comeback in popularity with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law across England and Wales.
Players will no longer be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite locations where many people like to smoke.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not cast aside this age old game?
The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course playing on the net will never replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
